Magazine I Miss: Camera Arts

I Miss It Because: Camera Arts published extraordinary photographs by masters of the arts, and it was itself a brilliant magazine in its own right.

Superb design, compelling writing, and, of course, original and provocative photography itself. All this was recognized by ASME in the early 1980s with a National Magazine Award.

So why did the magazine disappear after only 22 issues? For the most compelling answer to that question read Danny Lyon’s (yes, that Danny Lyon) explanation that appeared in Aperture in 1983.

Print may not be dead, but some of our most brilliant magazines are. This was one of them.
