Magazine I Miss: Book

I Miss It Because: One day in the fall of 2001, while poking around Harvard Book Store, I stumbled upon a magazine I had never seen before called Book.

I was taking fiction-writing classes at the time and was a daily subway rider, and so reading was a big part of my life. The simple name of the magazine — Book — drew me in and the articles on modern muckrakers and bookstores in places like beauty salons and villages in France kept me reading.

I loved the blurbs on first-time writers and the design felt modern. I remember thinking, “This is a magazine for me.”

Unfortunately, I was a little late to the game and the magazine, once described by its editor as "the Rolling Stone—not the Billboard—of the book industry,” folded not long after.
